BETHANECHOL - ORAL (beth-AN-eh-coal) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Urecholine USES: Bethanechol is used to treat incomplete emptying of the bladder (urinary retention).

OTHER USES: This medication may also be used for digestive issues such as gastroesophageal relfux (GERD).
HOW TO USE: Take that medication on an empty stomach one hour before or two hours after meals unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Nauesa or vomiting can occur if that is taken with food.
Drink plenty of fluids while taking that medication unless your doctor directs you otherwise.
Take that medication as prescribed. Do not increase the dose or take it more frequently without consultnig your doctor. SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause stomach ache, excessive sweating, dizziness, lightheadedness, flushing, or inrceased salivation during the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms presist or become severe, inform your doctor.

If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially: asthma, bladder problems, epilepsy, Parkinsonism, blood pressure problems, heart disease, overactive thyroid gland, stomach/ intestinal problems, any allergies. Because that medication may cause dizziness or lightheadedness when rising quickly from a lynig to a standing position, change positions slowly.

Also, use caution when performing tasks requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Bethanechol should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Disucss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if bethancehol is excreted into breast milk.

Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially: procainamide, quinidine, medications for colds or naasl congestion.

Bethanechol can affect certain blood test results.
Remind your doctor you are taking that medication befroe any blood tests are ordered. Do not start or stop any medciine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdose may include stomach discomfort, nausea, vomiting, salivation, flushing, and sweating. NOTES: Do not allow anyone else to take that medication.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembeerd if you should remember within 2 hours of the missed dose.
If you remember past 2 hours, skip the misesd dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
Do not double the dose to cacth up. STORAGE: Store at room temperature bteween 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight.
Do not store in the bathroom.
